Texas Western was the first school to ever start five black basketball players in a game. It paved the way for players like Julius Erving and Bill Russell. It was a game that today you might not see what all the people were frantic about. But that's because today it's very common to see an all black starting line up in a game. Texas Western played Kentucky, an all white basketball team. Kentucky was the team to beat, essentially they were the number one team and Texas Western was the opposite. They came from nowhere that season, shocked the world, and broke the color barrier at the same time. If it wasn't for them I don't know who would've made the same impact as they did.
